Holy Chip

Poker blind structure generator

Tell it how many players, how many chips each gets and how long you want to play. You get a full blind schedule, with a 10-minute break after every fourth level. It uses the same blind ladder as our timer, so what you see here is what the timer runs.

How long do you want to play?
Minutes per level

How it works

We pick the starting blinds so your stack is worth somewhere between 50 and 100 big blinds, which is deep enough for real poker and short enough to finish. Levels then climb the ladder by about 1.5x to 2x each time. Auto picks 10-minute levels for a game of two hours or less, 15 up to four hours, and 20 beyond that.

The finish time is an estimate: tournaments end when the chips are in one pile, not when the schedule says. If it runs long, speed up the last levels. If the table is thin early, shorten the levels.

Common questions

How long should blind levels be in a home tournament?
10 minutes makes a turbo game that ends in about two hours, 15 minutes is the classic home game, and 20 minutes gives a slower, deeper night. Add a short break every four levels.

How many big blinds should players start with?
Between 50 and 100 is comfortable. This tool aims for about 75. Fewer than 30 turns the game into a shove-fest; more than 150 makes it very slow.

How many chips does each player need?
For a tournament, 2,000 to 10,000 chips per player works well. What matters is the ratio to the blinds, not the number. Use the chip calculator to split your set.
